County Shooting Range Needs Your Help
The School Institutional Trust Lands (SITLA) owns the land on which the current pistol range sits. The lease originally set up with the Lions club has long expired and SITLA has no desire for this use to continue on their property. Daggett County has a lease that is good through the end of the year, which allows the current limited activity. SITLA has made the land available for sale and done an appraisal at the County’s expense (Map 1.7MB). The cost of the land is $24,000 dollars, plus closing costs. It can be purchased over time. SITLA is requiring 10% down with payment and with closing costs the initial investment will be about $3500. It is anticipated that following the completion of the sale, materials and labor will also be needed to complete the range. Events will then be held to help generate funds for payments to SITLA and continued improvements to the shooting complex. The first step is to secure the land. We would like to have a meeting in mid October to gauge the interest and determine if the needed funds will be available to acquire the land before the lease expires. The County would need to be the initial owner, but other ownership options may be available in the future.
Economic Development Board member Layne Ferrin recently attained a Range Master certification with others from all over North America and has gained some skill, knowledge and contacts to help the range be successful. He will be planning the meeting and is available for your questions and donations by calling (801) 564-2160 or you can contact Brian Raymond at 435-784-3218 ext. 134. Donations are needed as soon as possible to complete the sales process. They can be mailed to the Courthouse at PO Box 400; Manila, UT 84046 or can also be dropped off at the Clerk/Treasurer’s office.
The next Planning Meeting will be held on Friday evening, October 26th at 7 pm at the County Courthouse located at 95 N. 1st West in Manila, Utah. Your input would be appreciated.
