The second EIS will disclose the proposed designation of routes on the Vernal Ranger District.
These EIS’s will determine the future travel management plan that will be used on the Ashley National Forest for motorized access, not including over-the-snow vehicles such as snowmobiles.
A Notice of Intent (NOI) to produce an EIS was published in the Federal Register on November 9, 2007. The NOI describes the proposed action and started the comment period which gives the public 45 days to respond to the proposed action. Comments received during the comment period will help the forest develop alternatives to the proposed actions that will be presented in a draft EIS in early summer 2008 for the Roosevelt/Duchesne and Flaming Gorge Ranger Districts and in February 2009 for the Vernal Ranger District. The final FEIS’s and Decision, which indicates which alternative or combination of actions was the selected management is expected in November 2008 for Roosevelt/Duchesne and Flaming Gorge Ranger Districts and May 2009 for the Vernal Ranger District.
