Annually, at the beginning of October, TriCounty Health Department holds a drive thru flu clinic. This drive thru clinic allows opportunity for TriCounty Health Department to exercise emergency plans, so the public and TriCounty Health Staff know what to do in the event the Department has to mass vaccinate (or medicate) the entire population of the tri-county area. In an event of real life mass vaccination (or medication) due to a pandemic or epidemic, TriCounty Health Department would set up Point of Dispensing locations. The Flu Shoot Out simulates this set up. Getting your flu shot early in the season will help prevent influenza. TriCounty Health Department administers flu vaccine to children six months old to adults and senior citizens. Seasonal flu shots protect against three or four different strains of influenza viruses that research suggests may be the most common during the upcoming season.
